On 24th October, the Institute of Public Health (IPH) hosted a dynamic and informative webinar, Exercise and Healthy Ageing: The Role of Physical Activity in Preventing, Delaying, or Reversing Frailty. With over 1,000 registrants, this event gathered experts to discuss the transformative role of physical activity in promoting healthier, more resilient ageing.

Key presentations were delivered by Professor Maria Fiatarone Singh from the University of Sydney, Dr. John Travers from Trinity College Dublin, and Alison Patterson from the Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, each sharing practical, evidence-based approaches to integrating exercise into daily routines for older adults. Their insights emphasised the crucial role that regular physical activity can play in enhancing both physical and mental well-being.

The event also featured an energising activity session led by Thomas McCabe from Siel Bleu Ireland, who demonstrated accessible exercises designed to encourage daily movement and vitality. This interactive segment highlighted simple yet effective ways to incorporate physical activity into everyday life for lasting health benefits.

The session concluded with an insightful panel discussion, moderated by Professor Roger O'Sullivan from IPH. The expert panel included:

Leila Beattie, Physical Activity Leader at Age and Opportunity
Dr Ruth McCullagh, University College Cork
George Bell, Frailty Network
Professor Roman Romero Ortuno, Trinity College Dublin
