Valtakunta (Finland) - Contemplation (Album 2024)

The return of this incredible Finnish act with their 4th full-length album, after last year's "Ylösnousemus" album which was a personal highlight for 2023.

The mysterious core duo of Valtakunta is once again joined by the wizardry of Antti Klemi (Circle of Ouroboros, Absolute Key, etc.), this time contributing not just for vocals but also on occasions on drums, synths and guitar. This free-form organic entity once again blends, conjoints and perverts genre boundaries creating a sound that's wholly his own.

Do not get too comfortable by the cover art, as this full-length is once again a complete aberration. Combining elements of Raw Black Metal that go from the dissonant abstruseness of Ahulabrum to more melodic yet transcendental means, with Noise Rock's blown out distortion and abstractions with even some hints into Free Jazz territory, the band once again steps into the psych with clear influences from Krautrock music, this time maybe not so much into the mechanical motorik and sparse synthesizer effects of Neu! as "Ylösnousemus", but more as a free-form, droning psychedelia of Ash Ra Tempel.

Another brilliant piece of blackened noise psychedelia, surely to be appreciated by adepts of Ahulabrum, Nightogoat Invokate the Stars or some of their compatriots exploring similar sonic means as Flooded Church of Asmodeus, Jumalhämärä, Vihameditaatio and others.
