Lacrimosa is one of the most famous and emotionally powerful movements from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in D minor, K. 626, a mass composed for the dead (Requiem Mass). The piece was left unfinished at Mozart's death in 1791 and later completed by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr.

The Lacrimosa movement specifically reflects the "Day of Tears" as described in the Latin text of the Requiem Mass, where the mourners weep over the dead and pray for mercy. The music is filled with deep sorrow and somber intensity, with a choral arrangement and orchestral support that creates an overwhelming sense of grief and pleading for divine forgiveness.

Its slow tempo, dramatic harmonies, and poignant melodies make it one of the most moving parts of Mozart's entire body of work, often used to evoke strong emotions in films, ceremonies, and concerts. It’s a reflection on human mortality and the afterlife, resonating with audiences across generations.
