The largest diamond ever discovered is the **Cullinan Diamond**, which was found in 1905 at the Premier Mine in South Africa. Weighing an astonishing 3,106 carats in its rough form, it remains the largest gem-quality diamond ever found.

Transporting the Cullinan Diamond from South Africa to England was a complex and highly secure operation. To prevent theft, an elaborate plan was devised. A decoy package was sent via a regular steamship, heavily guarded and attracting much attention. Meanwhile, the actual diamond was sent in a plain box by regular mail, without any special security. This clever ruse ensured the diamond arrived safely in England.

Upon arrival, the Cullinan Diamond was presented to King Edward VII. It was eventually cut into several polished gems, with the largest being the **Cullinan I**, also known as the **Great Star of Africa**. This 530.4-carat diamond is now set in the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross, part of the British Crown Jewels.
