St. Mary’s Church, the biggest gothic brick church in the world.

It is hard to imagine visiting Gdansk without paying a visit to the biggest gothic brick church in the world. It is located in the heart of the Old City of Gdansk. When it was completed in 16th century, it could accommodate 20,000 people and the population of Gdansk at that time wasn’t much bigger. First Catholic, later Evangelical, and again since the end of WW2 as most of Gdansk churches became Catholic. Now St. Mary’s Church is the most visited church in Gdansk.
There are numerous works of art worth seeing here: The 15th century Ten Commandments, the beautiful gothic statue of Virgin Mary, the Pieta from approx. 1420, The Gdansk Astronomical Clock and a great copy of the Last Judgement by Hansa Memling. #poland #church #gdańsk
