In 1991 Savatage released their 6th album Streets: A Rock Opera.
For me this was a logical continuation following Gutter Ballet and have some of the bands best material, and some of guitarist Criss Oliva's best playing.
In this lesson we're taking a look at the intro and main riffs that make up the song "Ghost In The Ruins." For me this song combines all the best attributes that makes Savatage my favorite metal band of all time--beautiful melodies, heavy riffs, great lead guitar and an amazing chorus written by Criss and his brother Jon Oliva, along with long time producer Paul O'Neill (RIP).
The guitar solo is a masterpiece, and I will cover that in another lesson, but these riffs are also glorious, so buckle up and let's get started!
Standard tuning on this. Lesson starts at 04:24.
