Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
In the year of 476, beneath the darkened sky,
The mighty walls of Rome did crack, as empires fall and die.
The Western world began to fade, an era met its end,
With legions gone and leaders weak, the fall was hard to mend.
(Chorus)
Oh, Rome, your flames grew cold,
The Empire’s might, the tales of old.
From ashes rise, the darkened night,
The dawn of the Middle Ages’ fight.
(Verse 2)
The Visigoths and Vandals came, with Huns close at their side,
The city that once ruled the world, could no longer stem the tide.
With Romulus Augustulus, the last to hold the throne,
Odoacer took the crown, and claimed the land his own.
(Chorus)
Oh, Rome, your flames grew cold,
The Empire’s might, the tales of old.
From ashes rise, the darkened night,
The dawn of the Middle Ages’ fight.
(Bridge)
But in the ruins, seeds were sown, for kingdoms yet to rise,
With feudal lords and churchly powers, a new world in disguise.
The Church held fast to Roman ways, in law and faith they stayed,
While barbarians forged their realms, the Middle Ages played.
(Verse 3)
The light of Rome did not die out, its legacy endured,
In laws and language, in the cross, its influence assured.
The Byzantine, the Holy Crown, kept the flame alive,
While Europe, in the shadows cast, began again to strive.
(Chorus)
Oh, Rome, your flames grew cold,
The Empire’s might, the tales of old.
From ashes rise, the darkened night,
The dawn of the Middle Ages’ fight.
(Outro)
And though the Western sun did set, the echoes still remain,
In every court, in every church, the Roman blood’s refrain.
The fall of Rome was not the end, but a change of tides so vast,
For in its place, a new world dawned, from the remnants of the past.
