Описание
Lacrimosa dies illa
Qua resurget ex favilla
Judicandus homo reus
Translation:
Full of tears will be that day
When from the ashes shall arise
The guilty man to be judged
Fun Facts:
"Lacrimosa" was commissioned by Count Franz von Walsegg for the anniversary of his wife’s passing. Mozart died a year later and only finished two movements of "The Requiem" and only wrote the first few bars of "Lacrimosa".
Mozart received the first half of the commission but his wife, Constanze, was worried she wouldn’t get the second half if Walsegg knew it wasn’t written completely by Mozart. A student of Mozart, Franz Xaver Süssmayr, was asked to help and finished the rest of "The Requiem".
After "The Requiem" was turned in, Walsegg tried to take credit but Constanze was able to keep it from him through public performances and promotion giving credit to Mozart.
There’s a lot of myth surrounding the piece but one story she would tell is that Mozart claimed he was poisoned and knew he was dying so "The Requiem" was going to be his swansong.
