oe Rogan to Stephen A. Smith: ‘You’re a very entertaining guy ... but you’re wrong’ @joerogan @stephenasmith #Jre #JoeRogan #FirstTake

Joe Rogan, who has great respect for Stephen A. Smith, did not hesitate to criticize the ESPN commentator for his remarks following UFC 246. Smith had implied that Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone gave up during his fight against Conor McGregor, a comment Rogan found unjust given that Cerrone left the fight with serious injuries, including a broken nose and orbital bone. Rogan felt Smith’s understanding of mixed martial arts was lacking, making such judgments unfair.

In response, Smith defended his comments without directly addressing his initial statement about Cerrone quitting. Rogan elaborated on his frustration during his JRE podcast, explaining that Cerrone was overwhelmed by McGregor’s explosive start, which included effective shoulder strikes that quickly injured Cerrone. Rogan emphasized that Cerrone did not quit but was overpowered.

Rogan highlighted Cerrone’s impressive UFC record, which includes the most fights, finishes, head kick knockouts, and bonuses in the organization. He echoed McGregor's sentiment that Smith owed an apology for his comments, given Cerrone’s status as a legend in the sport and the caliber of opponents he has faced.

Smith, however, stood by his criticism and took issue with Rogan's suggestion that his presence at the event was detrimental to ESPN and the UFC. He expressed respect for Rogan but felt it was excessive to suggest he did not belong at the event due to a differing opinion.

Smith maintained that he would not apologize to McGregor or Rogan, despite his respect for both. Rogan advised Smith to approach future MMA commentary with more appreciation and respect for the athletes, emphasizing the unique demands and risks of the sport.
